In ancient times Punchbowl Crater (Puowaina Crater) was known as the "Hill of Sacrifice." Built in 1948, 776 casualties from the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor were among the first to be buried on the 116 acre site. The Crater is home to over 33,000 veterans and receives about 5M visitors annually.
